What is a Fuel Filter? How often should it be replaced by Elecdeer Fuel Filter?

heading_title

There are three types of Diesel filters, gasoline filters, and natural gas filters (Gas filters). Its function is to remove the solid impurities contained in the fuel, prevent the fuel system from clogging (especially the fuel injector), reduce mechanical wear, and ensure the stable operation of the engine. In addition, the fuel filter also has the function of filtering water to reduce the water in the fuel entering the engine and causing fatal damage to the engine.

There are two types of fuel filters: one is external, generally located in the lower part of the chassis; the other is built-in, located in the fuel tank. The two are only different in the installation position, but the effect is still the same. In addition, the external type is divided into two types: ordinary straight-in direct type and one with oil return line. For different vehicles, the replacement cycle of the fuel filter is different. You need to check the vehicle maintenance manual for details. If the fuel quality is not good, the replacement cycle can be shortened.

The function of the fuel filter is to filter the impurities in the fuel, but after a long period of use, the inside of the fuel filter may be blocked by impurities and affect the fuel supply, resulting in reduced fuel supply and difficulty in starting the engine. In addition, long-term clogging of the fuel filter can lead to premature failure of the gasoline pump.

Inferior fuel filters are made of poor materials, and the filtering effect is also very poor. Using the internal filter element for a long time may cause blockage of the oil circuit, resulting in insufficient fuel pressure and the vehicle cannot be started. At the same time, it will also cause abnormal pressure in the fuel system, which will directly lead to insufficient engine power or insufficient combustion, and damage the three-way catalytic converter, oxygen sensor and other valuable components.

This happens to the engine

It may be time to change the fuel filter

1. Difficulty starting the engine

If the fuel filter is used for an extended period of time, the filter holes of the internal filter material will be blocked due to long-term work, resulting in poor fuel flow. The engine doesn't get enough fuel, which can lead to "buzzing", premature failure, hard starting, and more.

2. Engine vibration

Severe clogging of the fuel filter will cause the amount of fuel entering the engine to drop, and even intermittent fuel cut-offs will cause the engine to vibrate irregularly or even stall, and problems such as power drop and insufficient acceleration will also appear when driving. Sometimes the yellow engine check light on the gauge will come on.

3. Oil spill

A fuel filter that is not replaced for a long time may cause fuel leakage due to rust, corrosion or damage to the casing. Not only will the fuel consumption increase significantly, but also the drivers and passengers can smell the obvious fuel smell in or near the vehicle. The most important thing is that fuel leakage will also bring the risk of fire. Please pay enough attention to the damage of the fuel filter shell.

It is recommended to replace the fuel filter regularly. Generally, the manufacturer recommends that the external filter element (outside the fuel tank) be replaced every 20,000 kilometers, and the built-in filter element (inside the fuel tank) be replaced every 60,000 kilometers. Different models are different.
